Our strategy
The FDI 2018–2021 strategy serves as a four-year roadmap to achieve our vision of leading the world to optimal oral health. The strategy defines three areas of action to promote and improve oral health worldwide and help deliver on our overarching organizational goal to: Lead the global fight to improve the oral health of populations to secure the general health and well-being of all at all ages.
Membership
FDI’s members are our greatest asset. We strengthen our work, at every level, when we have access to their wealth of knowledge and expertise, and better understand the challenges and resource gaps they face so that we can support them in the most relevant and appropriate way. Regular consultation with members, as well as developing activities tailored to their needs, are both essential to help raise the profile of oral health at the national level and support efforts at a global level.
Goal:
Develop programmes and activities to meet the needs of our members and help raise the profile of oral health at a national level.
Advocacy
Oral health is key to securing general health and well-being. As the leading global advocate for oral health, FDI amplifies the voice of the dental profession and draws attention to the global oral disease burden. Our advocacy efforts aim to increase oral health literacy and achieve political commitment and action on oral health. FDI is committed to ensuring that oral health is recognized as an essential element of overall health, a fundamental right, and is included in policies addressing other noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).
Goal:
Lead global advocacy efforts to increase oral health literacy and achieve political commitment and action on oral health in all countries.
Knowledge transfer
Knowledge is power. FDI is mighty when the oral health community is informed, shares best practices, participates in continuing education programmes and remains well-versed in the latest developments in oral healthcare. FDI further advances the science and practice of dentistry by convening the oral health community in a spirit of knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
Goal:
Foster best practices in oral health science and education, and share knowledge in preventive care and treatment to advance the art, science and practice of dentistry.
